The trail as of late 2011/early 2012 is well-maintained and easy to follow. There is a tree that came down in the path partway up but you can easily see where to walk around. It's 3.6 miles from the bottom of the canyon to the junction where the trail hits the road and where you can turn and take Fossil Ridge on up. The hike it self is very mild and it would be easy to bring a picnic along to enjoy at the lookout. There's no bathrooms or any facilities whatsoever.
