Rear shocks leaking

Rear shock leaking! Took my 2007 Z71 truck to my mechanic today to get a oil change and he said the rear shock is leaking. Only 24,000 miles. It's got a cap on the back but I mostly drive on highways. My 2004 Z85 went 65,000 miles with a cap carrying everything including scafolding from New Jersey to Florida and the shocks never wore out.
