Playground horror book
Playground by Aron Beauregard (minor spoilers)**. This is the 3rd book I've read by this author, the other two being Scary Bastard and The Slob, and what those two lacked in character development and story progression, Playground delivered. While I plan on reading more of his work, this is definitely my favorite book of the year so far.
It doesn't. There are a few more nasty Geraldine scenes throughout the book. Nothing else like that after that initial horrific backstory but pretty extreme gore and gross body horror through the whole thing. Stick it out, you’ve made it through the most disgusting part. The remainder has some excellent story telling.

It's good. My favorite Beauregard so far. The characters are well fleshed out, the kids go through some horrific stuff but you do find people to root for and you will absolutely hate the villains.
