Step 1:Inspect Bearings. The bearings tell a lot about what your engine has been through. With normal wear, the bearing wear should be fairly uniform from front to rear. Uniform brass material exposed is common, but these bearing shells show brass spots, which are from debris trapped under bearings before assembly.

On electronic distributors there is a wire up by the passenger side firewall that has to be unplugged while setting the timing. I think it's tan and has a plug on it to unplug. be sure to plug it back in after done timing.

The output shaft bearing race is used to locate the tail-housing on a typical 4x4 4spd and is used to locate the bearing retainer (go figure) on the Clark.
