You can, you got few hearts from main quest, more than how much you got in botw's main quest. You get 1 from the depths quest and 1 from the goddess statue quest. The goddess statue gives you the skyward sword. I think so. There like 156 shrines or something.

As a noob I'd go hearts. As stated when I restarted the game again I went stamina. But the thing is you can get the master sword with 13 natural hearts. So I'd go hearts until you get 13 and then get the master sword. Then go stamina. I went straight stamina until I could have gotten 13 hearts and then I switched them.
